Instead of grabbing for publicity, and bullying school board members, Florida state Senator Jeff Brandes should be fighting for the state's tax paying citizens.
This report from WFLA is shocking, in that Newpooint Education Partners is still collecting tax payer monies.
I understand that the schools involved have no issues at this time, but with this company's horrific track record of fraud and dishonesty, it seems rather like saying its fine to let the fox roam the hen house, because heretofore he has only eaten roosters.
But, I guess stupid is as stupid does. That's a fight for the citizens of Duvall County.
It's also a matter that Senator Brandes should be addressing. His job is to protect ALL taxpayers in the state, not just those who may garner him publicity.
Last week, we learned that after ignoring the whole Newpoint Education Partners scandal (apparently multiple times), Sen. Brandes decided that he needed to swoop in and bring the "Hope For Windsor" crowd his generous offer of assistance in finding them a new management company, which you can read here.
He also stated to WFLA that he blames the school board for all of this.
He attempts to absolve ( by not addressing it at all) himself of any role in this scenario, despite the fact that he is a member of the State Committee on Education Pre-K - 12, and on both this committee, and previous committees, has worked hard to reduce oversight of Charter Schools and relax regulations for them.
But yes, let's make the group of people whose hands were tied by the very laws you helped create your scapegoats.
People have been fighting for stricter laws regarding Charter Schools for years, and this is whole New point mess is an example of why.
Now its time for Senator Brandes to stand up and fight for stricter laws as well...let's see if he will.
